POISONOUS BEVERIDGE IN CHILLIWACK BC

Tyler Beveridge, manager of the Major League 2 Pub (located at 45768 Gaetz Street in
Chilliwack) and the son of the owner of Sardis Liquor Store (located at 45610 Luckakuck Way).
in Chilliwack), recently put on an appalling public display of racial profiling inside Sardis Liquor
Store.

Us Too’s founder and director Michael Cooper recently dropped in to Sardis Liquor Store just
before the 11 pm closing time. As he walked through the store, he noticed that he was being
closely followed by a man he neither knew nor recognized. He stopped walking and asked the
man why he was being followed. The man replied that he suspected that Michael was going to
steal liquor from the store.

[It should be noted here that Michael is a frequent customer of Sardis Liquor and that the store is his
preferred location to shop, and that he is well-known to most of the staff for his friendliness,
sense of humour, and jokes].

Here’s the kicker: there were other customers in the store at the time of the incident, but only
Michael was aggressively zeroed in on and verbally proclaimed a suspected thief. Hmmm. The
other customers were Caucasian and Michael is Native and visibly tattooed on the face, neck, and
arms.

When Michael went to the till with his purchase, he was advised not to ‘make a scene’ because the
The man who had gotten in his face was Tyler Beveridge, the owner’s son. Michael replied that he
didn’t care WHO the man was; that singling him out as a suspected thief was racial profiling and
against his (Michael’s) rights.

In the afternoon of January 2, Michael went to Sardis Liquor to make a purchase and was
informed by store manager Heather that he was now banned from the store by Tyler
Beveridge’s order. None of the other staff present would speak against this asinine decision
even though they know full well that Michael isn’t a thief. Michael told Heather that he would now be
posting the incident to all social media platforms as well as to the Us Too Advocacy website.
Heather replied that it would be ‘callous’ of Michael to publicize the incident online.
Really??

The only way that racism and maltreatment of Native people is going to stop is if we stand up to
it and refuse to stay quiet when we experience or see it happening firsthand!
Sardis Liquor Store and Major League 2 Pub deserve neither your patronage nor your
goodwill.
