Time to remember! Orange Shirt Day is September 30th 2024.

Once again, Orange Shirt Day in Canada is rapidly approaching (September 30th, 2024). This year, the observance will be tinged with more sadness than usual, as we regretfully provide a
APTN news clip proving that 6 First Nations individuals were murdered by the police in a 2-week span starting August 29th, 2024.

Orange Shirt Day is observed annually on September 30th, and is meant to serve as a powerful reminder of the horrific legacy of colonialism and residential schools in Canada.

Orange Shirt Day was first established in 2013 by Phyllis Webstad, whose personal story of having her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at a residential school underscores the broader experiences of so many First Nations children who lost their culture, their Native language, and their lives at residential schools.

Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for all Canadians to understand the tremendous importance of heeding these historical injustices as well as making sincere attempts at reconciliation between Native and non-Native peoples.

Us Too Advocacy encourages you to wear an orange shirt on September 30th, 2024, to show your solidarity with residential school survivors and also to honour those who didn’t return home from those nightmare institutions.
